Mobile phone users will soon get access to a universal charger with which they can charge any phone. It is to be noted that three years ago, 17 manufacturers and operators gathe
red at the Mobile World Congress and decided to share the same standard mobile
phone charger fitting into a micro-USB port. The goal as defined by the GSM Association was that most of the cell phones sold in 2012 should be well-matched with the new universal charger.
Though the European Union had put pressure on the industry to ensure that all phones use the same type of charger for convenience of users, the results so far have been mixed bag. Flavio Cuchietti, one of the supervisors at the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) said that the project has been announced quite a number of times and that customers are still waiting for it to happen.
