Global Cell Phone Market Grew By 17.9% In Q4 2010

The mobile phone market of the world is well and truly on a rise. A recent study by IDC titled Worldwide Mobile Phone Tracker Mobile Phone Picreveals that the worldwide the mobile phone market grew by 17% during Q4 of 2010.

Higher sales of smartphones have is one of the main reasons behind high sales of mobile phones in the fourth quarter of 2010. According to the report total number of cell phones shipped by vendors during the fourth quarter of 2010 stood at 401.4 million units as compared to 340.5 million units during the same period in 2009.

High Sales Of Cell Phones By Vendors In 2010

2010 turned out to be a highly productive year as mobile phone vendors sold 1.39 billion units which is 18.5% high against the 1.17 billion units shipped in 2009. During recession the market declined by with a host of cost effective phones launched helped the mobile phone market to grow big time.

Kevin Restivo, a senior research analyst with IDC’s Worldwide Mobile Phone Tracker said that cell phone users are eager to interchange old devices with new ones which can handle both data and voice. Nokia, Samsung, LG, ZTE, Apple were the top notch mobile phone vendors in 2010 and With vendors like ZTE, Micromax, G-Five and Karbonn rolling out high end handsets, sale of mobile handsets is expected to rise further in 2011.
