LG news

Meet the LG Cookie Fresh (LG GS290). It may seem just like any other touchscreen device out there, another run-of-the-mill mid-range collection of social networking, but you’d . . . Well, actually, you’d be right. This phone isn’t meant to wow the masses. What it is meant to wow is the wallet, which, arguably, may be the most important thing to wow.

Here’s finally a glimpse of the very first Windows Phone 7 phone, made by LG and shown by Microsoft’s Aaron Woodman during the latest Engadget show. Aaron demos a pretty cool sliding QWERTY smartphone, an LG prototype that runs Windows Phone 7 Series, but don’t expect any specs or details that soon.

Available since last month in the UK as LG InTouch Max, the LG GW620 has now been launched in Italy, too, as LG LinkMe.

The GW620 / LinkMe is LG’s first Android smartphone and comes with a 3 inch HVGA touchscreen display (resistive, unfortunately), as well as a full 5-row QWERTY keyboard.

The handset also features HSPA, Wi-Fi, A-GPS, full HTML browser, access to Android Market, LinkBook (which provides easy access to social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter), 3.5mm headset jack, 5MP autofocus camera with flash, and a 1GB memory card in the box.

Like the GW620, LG LinkMe runs Android 1.5 and it will probably be upgraded only to Android 1.6. In Italy, the phone costs €299 (about $405).

LG Electronics has just unveiled the LG 201 handset in South Korea, basically a line more than a handset, including three models: SU210, KU2100 and LU2100. These units are identical as far as specs are concerned, but they’re meant to reach different carriers: SK Telecom, Korea Telecom and LG Telecom, respectively.

The devices should retail for about $500 each and they’ll come packing GSM/WCDMA connectivity, a 3 inch touchscreen display (240 x 400 pixels), 2GB SDRAM (is this possible?!), 4GB of NAND flash memory, WiFi and Bluetooth 2.1. There’s also a microSD card slot on board, a T-DMB TV tuner and a 5 megapixel camera.

The 1500 mAh battery, GPS, accelerometer and light sensor complete the specs list of this device, weighing 121 grams and sporting an iPhone-like interface.

The idea of a device that replaces a laptop perfectly and is still able to resemble a phone is growing on us, but still it’s very hard to pocket such tech monsters. One of these newcomers is the LG GW990, spotted briefly at CES 2010 and drawing everyone’s attention through the fact that it uses the Intel Mooreston CPU.
