Here in the United States, Windows Mobile had been counted out by a lot of people. Companies like Motorola had even stopped making hardware until the mobile Operating System improved. And now that the Redmond, Washington-based company has shown off Windows Phone 7 Series, Windows Mobile 6.5 has begun its inexorable transition to the shadow of yesteryear. About a year ago, T-Mobile USA introduced Yahoo OneSearch as the default mobile search engine for its phones. But the exclusive deal with Yahoo has ended, and T-Mo didn’t want to extend it.

Instead, the fourth largest US carrier has chosen Google as its mobile search provider. Moreover, it looks like T-Mobile plans to work with Medio Systems, too (which indexes results for content like ringtones and wallpapers).

Reportedly, “Google Search is now active in T-Mobile’s Web2Go platform and home page.”

Even so, Yahoo is still working with T-Mobile USA, providing services like Yahoo Mail, News, Finance, Yahoo Messenger and Flickr.

At the moment, Google also provides mobile search for Sprint in the US. AT&T still works with Yahoo, while Verizon has a partnership with Microsoft.

Wondering why you couldn’t download the Skype for Windows Mobile from the company website? Skype has confirmed that it will no longer offer Skype for Windows Mobile, as it felt that the version is not offering the best user experience compare to Symbian and iPhone version. The company has posted a faq says, “We’ve chosen to withdraw Skype Lite and Skype for Windows Mobile because we want to offer our new customers an improved mobile experience – much like the version that has proved so popular on the iPhone, and which is now available on Symbian phones. Our focus is on providing a rich user experience that allows you to enjoy free Skype-to-Skype and low cost calls as easily on the move as you do at your desktop. We felt that Skype Lite and Skype for Windows Mobile were not offering the best possible Skype experience.”
