The most complicated thing that I do on my smartphone is try to create a legible and easy to understand text message. Anyone who uses the predictive text feature on the iPhone knows what I mean. Some people use their smartphones for all sorts of other tasks.

Smartphone-commander

One thing I had not considered was the use of a smartphone by emergency personnel to help manage an emergency. A new Android application called Mutualink Smartphone Commander has been unveiled. The application is designed to provide field functionality on Mutualink secure distributed ad-hoc multi-media emergency communications.

The app hopes to make it easier for different agencies working on the same emergency to better communicate together. The app can manage interoperable communications like radios, mobile and landline phones, video and data connectivity.

asus-p5651

Remember we told you the Asus P565 will be killed and buried now that Asus and Garmin have wedded to produce a different breed of supercellphones?  Well, seems like its fast 816MHz processor somehow helped it escape the axe as ASUSPDA, a Polish were able to buy it online and have a complete unboxing and review to show that the device is far from dead and a great phone worthy enough to continue a long life.  They did have a few grumbles about Glide, ASUS’ TouchFLO-esque interface, which did not seem to mirror its fast processor, but its skill in other areas including a pretty fast GPS and its lively 2.8-inch VGA display had the reviewers getting over that fact without much grief.

The Asus P565 is available now for a cool $567 from QBit’s webstore and if you don’t want to buy it before you try it, check out their short-term prepaid renting scheme.

BlackBerry 8230 from TelusLooking for the BlackBerry Kickstart on Telus? Well, you’ll be fairly happy to hear that the device will be available on the carrier for just $50. Of course, such a price point means that you’ll have to agree to a 3-year contract, but that’s a fair bit of savings, considering that the phone is going for $449.99 contract-free.
