If you’re looking to send your baby snookums photo love notes this Valentine’s Day, Valentine Photo Free (iTunes link) is a simple app that makes adding hearts and other Valentine’s Day-themed graphics to your photos easy. And best of all, it’s free.

While not the smoothest interface we’ve seen in an app, it gets the job done. Simply drag the graphics into the photos. You can resize or rotate the graphics through button controls or pinching gestures (we recommended using the buttons as the pinch gestures you’d normally use don’t work too well here).

When you’re done, you can save the finished product to the iPhone’s photo album, email it, upload to Twitter, or upload to Facebook, all within the app.

Again, it’s a very basic app with a lot of limitations. For instance, it doesn’t support landscape photos, so you have to choose only sections of landscape photos to use. And you can’t add your own text—you have to use the graphics provided. But the graphics are not too bad.

The same day when Apple unveiled its “revolutionary” iPad tablet, Government Outreach announced a new iPhone application that should help citizens in dozens of US cities and counties report various issues to their City Hall (issues like “potholes that need filling, barking dogs that need quieting, and graffiti that needs removing”).

The new iPhone app is called GORequest (an unfortunate name, I’d say, although their intention is to sound like “GO request” and not “gore quest”) and uses your iPhone’s GPS and camera capabilities. You just have to “open the app, select an issue, take a picture, and tap submit” – your issues will then be sent “directly to the staff member at city hall who can fix it.”

Some of the cities where you’ll be able to use the GORequest iPhone app include Santa Monica, CA, Queen Creek, AZ, and Arvada, CO.

“We’ve already helped many agencies around the country dramatically improve customer service through the web, but with GORequest for the iPhone they can now connect with residents on the go,” declared Government Outreach president Kendall Smith.

Government Outreach doesn’t say where you can get its app from, but you’ll probably find it in the App Store.

I wonder if the GORequest app will work with the Apple iPad… Uhm, no, it won’t, because the iPad doesn’t have any kind of camera to take photos with. Revolutionary, indeed.

Apple announced that developers have created over 100,000 apps for the revolutionary App Store. Apple continues to improve search and discovery with new features including Genius for Apps, App Store Essentials selections, sub category listings and more valuable customer reviews. With the recently introduced iTunes 9, it’s also now easier than ever to organize and sync your apps right in iTunes and they will automatically appear on your iPhone or iPod touch with the same layout.
